Emi Buchwald

Emi Buchwald is a Polish film director and screenwriter born in 1991. She graduated in Film Directing from the Łódź Film School and completed the Documentary Program at the Wajda School. She is the author of acclaimed short fiction and documentary films, including Education (2016), Heimat (2017), A Beautiful Wildflower Meadow (2022) and Echo (2023), screened and awarded at festivals such as Warsaw Film Festival, New Horizons, Gdynia Film Festival, Krakow Film Festival, Camerimage, Palm Springs, AFI Docs.

Her feature debut, Nie ma duchów w mieszkaniu na Dobrej (2024), premiered in the Main Competition of the Gdynia Film Festival, where it received multiple awards, including the Directors’ Award and the Press Award.

Buchwald’s work is recognised for its emotional precision, subtle humour and intimate observation of interpersonal dynamics, establishing her as one of the most distinct emerging voices in contemporary Polish cinema.
