Justyna Mytnik is a Polish writer and director whose work is making waves in both film and theatre. A graduate of the renowned Directing program at PWSFTviT, the Łódź Film School, Justyna has earned international recognition for her short films, which have screened at prestigious festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, Curtacinema Rio de Janeiro, and POFF. Her documentary How to Become a Pope? won Best Documentary at the Warsaw Film Festival, while her short film Apocalypse garnered awards at FEST, Roja, Cinemaiubit, and Bytom, as well as at the celebrated “Łódź po Wiśle.”
Her journey into the arts began with an MA in History of Art and English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, where she also honed her skills as a playwright and director. Her play Defunct Pig was staged at Summerhall and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, earning critical attention for its bold storytelling.
This year, Justyna Mytnik completed her debut feature film “Wet Monday” in collaboration with Lava Films, a project supported by the Polish Film Institute (PISF) and Media Slate. The film premiered at the prestigious Gdynia Film Festival, where it earned a nomination in the Main Competition, marking a significant milestone in her career as a filmmaker.
