“Jagna the Creator”

Jagna Dobesz, a remarkably talented production designer, has a gift for bringing unforgettable worlds to life on screen. Her creations are true masterpieces. Before establishing herself as an independent production designer, she contributed to the Oscar-winning “Ida” by Paweł Pawlikowski and “Zjednoczone stany miłości” directed by Tomasz Wasilewski, which received recognition at the Berlinale. Furthermore, she designed the sets for Claire Denis’ film “High Life” featuring Juliette Binoche and Robert Pattinson.

Jagna worked on movies “Intruder” and “Sweat” with Magnus von Horn. They just wrapped up their third film together “The Girl With The Needle” co-produced with Denmark. It’s competing for the Golden Palm at Cannes. She also worked on “Fuga” and “Silent Twins” by Agnieszka Smoczyńska.

Jagna’s artistic talent shines in “Kindler and Virgin,” the Polish part of the film “The Field Guide To Evil,” which debuted at SXSW in Texas in 2018. She’s also achieved remarkable feats, designing sets for  “Ciemno prawie noc” a film by Borys Lankosz. Her earlier works like “Dzień czekolady” by Jacek Bławut and “Najpiękniejsze fajerwerki ever” by Aleksandra Terpińska, showcased at the Cannes Semaine de la Critique in 2017.

Jagna teamed up with Anna Maliszewska for the film “Tata,” and they continued working together on the series “Infamia” in which Jagna displayed her love for vibrant decoration, bold colors, and creative concepts.

In 2023 Jagna worked on a film with Burhan Quarbani, renowned for “Berlin Alexanderplatz”, where she could create her own distinctive vision once again. Projects where set design takes center stage, becoming a character in itself rather than just a backdrop, are the most interesting for Jagna.

Her latest project “The Girl with the Needle” directed by Magnus von Horn was recognized by the National Board of Review as one of Top Five Internation Films of 2024. Dobesz received the European Production Design award at the 37^th European Film Awards in Lucerne, Switzerland. At 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the film earned a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Denmark has selected Magnus von Horn’s The Girl With the Needle as its Oscar submission for the Best International Feature Film category.
